As student ministers there are at least two questions we ask when a flyer comes across our desk: “Who are these guys?” and “What will they be teaching my students?” What follows are your answers. It is a snap shot of our heart, who we are, and what we will be teaching.
Who are these guys?
God gave a vision – a passion – to two Student Ministers, Rick Herman and Carson Fellows, while they were serving in the panhandle of Florida. In ‘02, they held the first MOG/WOG Winter Retreat, with a desire to provide a weekend where students would be deeply challenged in their faith. Their goal was to take them far beyond just the Sunday-School answers; it was to challenge and equip students to be real, authentic Disciples of Christ. In ‘03 Ty Greene and Shauna McCoy took on key rolls. The original vision God gave still remains as the heart of the ministry and with each year we strive to help our students and your students dig deeper and grow stronger in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
What will they be teaching my students?
This year’s theme is “inside out”… a faith that works. We will encourage and challenge students, adults and youth ministers to live a life turned “inside-out” for Christ. What does a life turned “inside out” look like? This is a life submitted to God’s daily calling, a life serving others as one serves God. It’s a life being sanctified by the continual work of the Holy Spirit. God is calling a generation who will not deny Him, who will not be ashamed of Him, who will not sit by and watch the current of the world drowned their passion.
We will be teaching God’s word! We stand on God’s authority not man’s opinion! We rely on the guidance of The Holy Spirit through prayer and in-depth study of God’s word! We focus on Christ being the center of all things! There will be a variety of avenues to convey what God will have for your students. Worship: Ellis Wimberly will be teaching “hands-on” worship as he leads us into the presence of God. Our camp pastor, Jeff Robinson, will preach God’s word applying truth to everyday life. Our session speakers will be able to connect with students on their level. The sessions are age and gender appropriate. This allows the speaker to relate on a level of maturity and life experience which students can understand. Small Groups: We place a high responsibility on the shoulders of the Small Group Leader’s; every thing will rise and fall during the Small Group time. This is where the application will stick.
